Looking for a dancer

CASTING CALL

Vaasa City Theatre and the Regional Dance Centre of Ostrobothnia are seeking 1–2 dancers for a co-production with the working title SIMULAATIO X. The premiere will take place on 11 February 2027.

SIMULAATIO X is a new artistic co-production by the Regional Dance Centre of Ostrobothnia, Vaasa City Theatre and the School of Technology at Vaasa University of Applied Sciences. The work explores the fundamental nature of reality through the lens of simulation theory.

The primary target audience is young people. The aim is to create a performance that not only entertains, but also educates — raising questions, offering insights, and strengthening young people’s ability to navigate a multilayered reality.

The script and dramaturgy of the work will be developed collaboratively through the working process. Students from VAMK will participate in the production as coders as part of their studies. The choreographer and director of the production will be announced in August 2026.

Employment type: Fixed-term guest dancer contract

Salary: According to the Finnish Theatre Collective Agreement (TeaTES)

Rehearsals begin: 30 November 2026

Requirements:

  • Professional or higher education degree in dance.

  • Professional experience and performance experience from diverse productions are considered an advantage.

  • Understanding of process-oriented and interdisciplinary artistic working methods.

  • Good collaboration and communication skills.

  • The language of the performance is Finnish.

The application is otherwise free-form, but must include a video sample demonstrating your physical performance practice. Applications will be reviewed by the Executive Director of the Regional Dance Centre of Ostrobothnia, the producer of the centre, and the choreographer of the production.

Based on the applications, selected applicants will be invited to an audition at Vaasa City Theatre on 13 June 2026 between 12:00–17:00.
