Description
Gull Øzger is a Norwegian choreographer and dance artist from Mo i Rana, by the Arctic Circle in Northern Norway. Since 2018, her artistic practice has centred on soft activism – an approach that places the body’s vulnerability at the heart of artistic and political expression, rather than confrontation.
Through GullBakken, she creates nomadic, site-responsive work rooted in cross-border collaboration and everyday encounters. Within this, Hverdagskunst – Everyday Art is a continuously evolving artistic practice, shaped by every encounter.
During the Nordic regional (net)working residency in Kokkola, she will meet dance artists Ailish Maher and Ulla Hyväluoma, and together they will continue to develop the practice of Hverdagskunst.
You don’t need to know anything about dance to be part of this. You don’t need to perform, prepare, or say the right thing. You just need to be where you already are. This is for every body and every story – however you move, however you speak, however you’d like to take part.
The group will be out and about in Kokkola – not on a stage, but in the places you pass through anyway: a waiting room, the harbour, a corridor, a café or a kitchen table. If you meet one of them, they’ll simply ask what you’d like to share. A memory, an object, a few words. There’s no wrong answer, and what you share stays between you and the dancer.
What happens next is small: a short, quiet piece of movement is created from what you shared. The dancer shows it back to you, and you adjust it together until you decide it’s finished.
Then it’s over. Nothing is expected of you afterwards.
Hverdagskunst – Everyday Art can be experienced at the opening event of the Kokkolan Talvitanssit Festival on 1 October at 4 PM at Vintage Makkara.
