Three-Year State Artist Grant in Dance Awarded to the Dance Centre's Region

The Managing Director of the Regional dance centre of Ostrobothnia, dance artist Eleni Pierides, has been awarded a three-year artist grant by the Arts Promotion Centre Finland for the period 2027–2029.
This is the first state artist grant in dance awarded within the Dance Centre's operating region since 2021. Between 2020 and 2026, the Regional Arts Council of Ostrobothnia has awarded only one or two short-term working grants (lasting less than six months) or individual project grants in dance each year.
Long-term, full-time personal artist grants play a crucial role in sustaining the regional ecosystem of the independent dance sector. In addition to state funding, continuous artistic practice in dance across the former Vaasa Province has also been regularly supported by private foundations, including the Swedish Cultural Foundation in Finland (Svenska Kulturfonden) and the regional funds of the Finnish Cultural Foundation.
The Managing Director's upcoming grant period also creates an opportunity to explore new ways of working within the Dance Centre. Although changes to the organisation's staffing structure will take effect from January 2027, we are looking forward to this new phase with great optimism. Pierides will remain actively involved in the Dance Centre through ongoing projects and international network collaborations.
At the request of the Centre's governing community, discussions are also underway on organisational models that would allow the production and administrative responsibilities of the core activities to be shared more collectively. The aim is to strengthen the Centre's collaborative culture, increase organisational flexibility, and build more sustainable structures that respond to the needs and aspirations of the regional dance community.
