Cultural wellbeing

Through the Regional Dance Centre of Ostrobothnia, you can order performances, workshops, and other dance-based activities for schools, elderly homes, workplaces, events, and various occasions. We offer tailored activities, cultural well-being services, dance education, and high-quality dance art created by professional dance artists and pedagogues.

We bring creative movement and dance improvisation into everyday life, adapting to the needs of different groups. Movement and music provide stimulation and support communication. The activities are built around dialogue and doing things together. The movement workshops include body warm-ups and activation, as well as diverse creative exercises based on dance improvisation. The exercises are simple and accessible for everyone. Activities can be carried out sitting, lying down, or standing.

Our workshop and tools concept for creative movement and dance improvisation is suitable for both Finnish and Swedish-speaking participants.

Our professional pedagogues and dance artists are also experienced in the field of cultural well-being. We have delivered workshop series in elderly care homes, residential units for people with dementia, and KEVA homes. All our workshops and concepts are co-designed with the client to meet the needs of the residents.

An example is our Himalaja project in autumn 2024, where we carried out a series of six sessions for a dementia care home. Each visit lasted 45 minutes and included both a dance performance and a workshop based on the performance. The workshops were suitable for participants of all mobility levels and were conducted in a seated position.

The performance and workshop series was implemented by a professional dance pedagogue who created a new performance and related movement material for each session. The instructor became familiar with the routines of the home and some of the residents, which made content planning easier. The planning also considered upcoming holidays and, of course, the wishes of the residents.
