Flora Fauna Project returns to Vaasa

The Swedish-Irish artist duo Flora Fauna Project, consisting of Maria Nilsson Waller and Stace Gill, returns to Vaasa with their multidisciplinary work The Peace Process.
The Peace Process is a bold, durational performance in which dance, music, film and installation merge into a meditative whole. The work explores the deepest cycles of evolution, conflict and harmony. This immersive experience invites audiences to move freely through a unique and multi-layered environment while becoming active participants in a shared ritual that reflects the times we live in.
The work premiered at Uillinn – West Cork Arts Centre in November 2025 and subsequently toured to Spring Moves Dance Festival in Wexford in spring 2026. In Vaasa, The Peace Process will be presented at Vaasa Art Hall from 24 July to 16 August, during the Art Hall's regular opening hours, five days a week with two performances daily between 12.00 and 16.00.
The work's Co-Artistic Directors, Maria Nilsson Waller (choreography, scenography and visual design) and Stace Gill (music and film), have assembled an international ensemble of dancers and designers to realise this compelling vision. The team also includes local dancers from the Vaasa region.
The performance follows a ten-chapter score that functions as a continuous loop or spiral—a work that can, in principle, be performed indefinitely. Each cycle offers both performers and audiences new perspectives and a unique experience. It is a living, evolving ritual that invites us to direct our collective attention towards our own personal agency and our roles in cultivating frequencies of peace. The work creates an immersive space for reflecting on our individual peace processes while reminding us that there is no magical button for peace—peace is a lifelong process that requires care, commitment and continuous nurturing.

In connection with Flora Fauna Project's visit, the Regional Dance Centre will organise several voluntary opportunities for participation and collaboration.
On Sundays 2 August, 9 August and 16 August, the artist duo will facilitate a morning movement class at Kuntsi waterfront from 10.00–11.00, weather permitting.
The class is gentle and suitable for everyone. It combines influences from a variety of dance techniques and somatic movement practices—including ballet, taiji, yoga, Graham technique and Contact Improvisation—into a relaxed and refreshing experience. Participation is free of charge, with optional donations welcome. No previous dance experience is required—everyone is warmly welcome.
On Friday 7 August, from 19.00 to 22.00, we will also host a voluntary Open Stage evening at Vaasa Art Hall. Flora Fauna Project invites local artists to come together to share their work through informal presentations, demonstrations and works-in-progress.
The evening is not limited to dance; on the contrary, the organisers encourage contributions from across the artistic spectrum. Admission operates on a pay what you can basis.

On Tuesday 11 August, we will organise a free workshop for professional artists from the region, focusing on learning the score of The Peace Process.
Following the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to take part in the performance during Vaasa Night of the Arts on 13 August at Vaasa Art Hall.
Participation in the Night of the Arts performance (provisionally scheduled for 14.00–22.00) is entirely voluntary and is not formally part of the Regional Dance Centre's programme. However, taking part in the performance is not a requirement for attending the workshop. We hope that as many professionals as possible will join us for the first "Professional Morning Class" of the autumn season!
