A woman dancing in the woods

We're hiring!

The Regional Dance Centre of Ostrobothnia is hiring a regional dance artist for a one-month fixed-term position to work in the municipalities of Nykarleby, Pedersöre, Jakobstad, Larsmo, and Kronoby in early summer 2024.

The project’s target community consists of school-aged children and young people.

The selected dance artist will work and prepare the artistic content of their project during weeks 21–22 (20 May – 2 June 2024). The result will be a Finnish-language dance performance and workshop package, which the artist will independently present and facilitate between 3–19 June 2024, concluding just before Midsummer.

The performance and accessible workshop will tour as part of the “summer children’s activities” in the five municipalities mentioned. The artist will visit various summer camps as well as, for example, kindergartens where children in pre-primary and early primary education spend their summer days.

The Regional Dance Centre of Ostrobothnia will coordinate, schedule, and organise the performances and workshops. The Centre will also provide accommodation and a rehearsal space for the artist for the necessary period. The artist will travel within the region using their own or a rental car.

The fee for the project is €2,850 + 12% holiday compensation.

The aim of the project is to produce a solo performance that is accessible and engaging for children of different ages. Central to the project is an artistically strong performance, freely themed by the artist, that resonates with young audiences and brings meaningful artistic experiences into the everyday lives of families at the start of summer. After each performance, the audience will be invited to participate in a dance workshop related to the artistic theme — either as a voluntary activity or as part of a supervised programme, depending on the setting (e.g. summer camp or town event).

If you are an independent artist with pedagogical insight and are interested in a month-long project position, we encourage you to apply! Applicants should have proficiency in Finnish, artistic and pedagogical expertise, and a driver’s licence.

Please send your free-form application, including your artistic project idea and CV, by 21 January 2024 to:
