Tie toiseen – Kontaktityöpaja
Published on
Thursday, March 14, 18:00–19:30, Teeriniemi Wrestling Hall
Interested in movement improvisation? Come and explore how to move together without predetermined steps or shapes. No prior experience in dance or martial arts is required to participate.
In this workshop, participants will get to know the contact-based approach of dance artists Anders Lillhonga and Matti Haaponiemi, which draws inspiration from aikido and contact improvisation. The central focus is on a soft, finely tuned quality of contact that gently touches the boundaries of strength and enables a sensitive and safe way of negotiating movement with others.
The work is guided by intuition rather than external form. Movement arises from inner sensations, supported by task-based exercises. The atmosphere is relaxed, playful, and enjoyable, and the workshop is suitable for participants of all levels—from complete beginners to experienced movers.
Please bring comfortable clothes that allow free movement and a water bottle. Everyone works with everyone—no partner is needed.

Matti Haaponiemi and Anders Lillhonga have worked together since 2017. They share a deep interest in contact work, improvisation, as well as sound and video art. Their artistic expression and aesthetic ideals are influenced by authentic performance, video games, action films, and the mysticism of Eastern martial arts.
The workshop offers insight into the artists’ working methods and serves as an introduction to their performance Either put on these glasses or start eating that trash can, which will be shown on Friday, March 15 at Vaasa City Theatre. The performance is part of the Pohjanmaa Dances event, held March 13–16, 2024.
