Vaasa City Theatre and the Regional Dance Centre of Ostrobothnia are seeking a choreographer for a new production SIMULATION X (working title), premiering in February 2027.

SIMULATION X (working title) is a new artistic co-production by the Regional Dance Centre of Ostrobothnia, Vaasa City Theatre, and the Technology Department of Vaasa University of Applied Sciences. Drawing on simulation theory, the work explores the fundamental nature of reality. Created through the means of dance and theatre art as well as game design, the piece is built as a bodily and spatial experience in which the audience moves as part of the performance and concretely influences its outcomes.

The primary target group is young audiences, and the aim is to create a performance that not only entertains but also educates—raising questions and offering insights as well as strengthening young people’s ability to navigate a multi-layered reality.

The script and dramaturgy of the work will emerge through a collaborative process within the artistic team. Students from Vaasa University of Applied Sciences will participate in the production as coders as part of their studies. The choreographer will work in close partnership with the director. The director selected for the production will be announced at a later date.

The planning team and project leads will meet for a framework meeting in February 2026.

Planning factor (according to the TeaTES collective labour agreement) for the choreographer: 3

Employment type: Fixed-term contract

Salary: According to TeaTES

Rehearsals begin: December 2026

Premiere: Provisionally 11 February 2027

  • Higher education in dance or vocational qualification with equivalent professional experience.

  • An understanding of process-based working methods and the nature of interdisciplinary artistic creation.

  • Strong interaction and group facilitation skills (Finnish, Swedish, or English).
