Description

A tribute to homes! Now reviving the fading tradition of visiting and bringing touring performance art directly to people’s living rooms. This performance, which has toured across Finland, arrives in June 2023 in the living rooms of various municipalities in Central Ostrobothnia.

In the Living Room is the first performance by Kotiteatteri and premiered in 2018. It launched a series of performances set in different spaces within the home, focusing on the theme of hospitality among strangers.

In In the Living Room, glimpses of national costumes and pole dancing appear alongside coffee drinking, lounging, exercising, sweating, and farting — all performed by five artists. Through the performance, a shared living room is formed among both familiar and unfamiliar guests. The audience can enjoy the show comfortably from the sofa.

The performance is supported by the Finnish Cultural Foundation, the Arts Promotion Centre Finland, and the Regional Dance Centre of Ostrobothnia.

Admission is free, but seat reservations are required due to limited audience capacity. Reservations: info.kotiteatteri@gmail.com. The exact address of the living room will be provided upon booking.

ABOUT KOTITEATTERI

Kotiteatteri is a group founded in 2018 by five performing arts professionals, with private homes serving as their stage. The aim of Kotiteatteri is to popularise new performance art, revive the disappearing tradition of home visits, and extend touring performance activities to areas where such events are rarely held. Their performances are tributes to homes, families, and various traditions of gathering and belonging, such as evening get-togethers, parish meetings, and communal social events. Kotiteatteri’s tools include a wide range of expertise in dance, theatre, performance art, sound, and lighting design — as well as skills they do not possess.

Kotiteatteri’s regional tour began in 2019 in Satakunta and Uusimaa, continued in North Karelia in 2021, and in Pirkanmaa in 2022.

Concept, dramaturgy, and implementation: Tuomas Laitinen, Aku Meriläinen, Elisa Piispanen, Ulla Päivikkö, and Laura Rämä.
