On Thursday 13 March at 17:00, Anna and Kajza Rauhala will present their artistic work and project “Satumaa/Sagoland,” which relates to family roots and the Finnish tango tradition. The presentation will take place at Taikon, and admission is free. As part of their residency, the Rauhalas will also teach workshops for dance students at Taikon.
On Friday 14 March at 18:00, Marit-Shirin Carolasdotter and the group Humans & Soil will present their work-in-progress piece “No Friend But the Mountains” at Wasa Teater’s Magasinet. Admission is free. This work also explores the theme of roots.
Marit-Shirin Carolasdotter will also lead one of the workshops in the Pohjanmaa tanssii programme on Thursday 13 March from 13:15 to 15:15, titled “Dances of Resistance.” The workshop addresses various contradictions in the ways we learn dance within the context of the present moment. The starting point is ancestral legacy and the heart, through which we seek to find our own rhythm and practice listening, creating echoes of emotion that resonate throughout the body.
Next, we weave rhythmic movements together with other bodies in the space through the practice of collective imagination. The entire workshop is based on improvisational instructions that use choreographic elements to experience dance as a collective form of pleasure. The dances draw from Kurdish and Sámi traditions, combining ancestry with dance as a means of resistance and togetherness.
