Description
A video and photo installation accompanied by a live performance.
Obscure Sorrows is a work about coexistence and being together with different natural environments. The video piece and photographs displayed in the gallery capture moments of togetherness with places such as the ice of Pikkuvaara Pond, the rowan tree of Kuusiluoto, the barren pine heath of Pahalaakso, and the field by Pikkujoki.
In these ritual-like encounters, the artists listened to the Mallatunturi fell, observed the sounds of white-tailed deer, danced on the rocky shore of Kilpisjärvi, and were at times halted by snowstorms or sudden gusts of wind. Through these moments, they reflected on questions such as: when will the Arctic fox once again walk the same paths as we do? When did the old spruces and their inhabitants disappear from the forest near grandmother’s house? And at what point did the bottom of Lake Kangasjärvi become invisible when diving?
Through the performances, the video work expands into the space through bodily and visual actions, creating a shared experience with the audience.
The artistic team consists of dance artists Riina Kalmi and Soile Voima, sound designer Kristian Ekholm, and scenographer Anttoni Halonen.
